Forest and nature schools have existed for over a century and continue to grow in Canada as families seek meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for their young children. Time spent outdoors offers unique opportunities for children to explore, problem-solve, collaborate, and follow their natural curiosity.
In nature, children learn by doing — building confidence, resilience, independence, and a strong sense of self.
Our program is 100% outdoors, held on 2 private acres of forested land beside Heber Down Conservation Area, with access to trails and rich natural play spaces. Meeting in the same location each week allows children to develop a deep relationship with the land, fostering a sense of belonging, care, and environmental stewardship.
Children learn through:
Exploration and imaginative play
Inquiry, discussion, and observation
Hands-on experiences guided by seasonal changes and children’s interests
We believe children are capable, curious learners. Their questions, ideas, and interests help shape the learning that unfolds each day.
All-Weather Learning
We learn outdoors rain, snow, or shine. With proper clothing and support, children build resilience and discover joy in all kinds of weather — from calm sunny days to windy, rainy adventures.
The site includes a shelter, tables, and a composting toilet. There is no indoor space.
"The best classroom and the richest classroom is roofed only by the sky."
- Margaret McMillan
"Before we ever put a pencil in a child's hands, those hands should dig, climb, press, pull, squish, twist and pinch a wide array of environments and a wide variety of materials."
- Amanda Morgan
"They're not just playing in nature, they are: Learning, creating, sensing, believing, relaxing, exploring, observing, wondering, connecting, discovering, appreciating, understanding, experimenting..."
- Penny Whitehouse
